Ai: Portrait

I tear pages out of magazines.  Pages are photos, cooking recipes or even color schemes, whatever inspires me. I don't know very much about Anne Pasternak, but when I saw this picture in a NY Times magazine several years ago, it just struck me with her big smile. The photo has been pinned to the wall in front of my desk, so it was an easy choice for the assignment.

Ai: Artist Poster

Matisse is  one of my favorite artists.   There were two things I wanted to research.
1. His use of color and line fascinates me. What and who influenced his style of painting?
2. Sometime ago, I went to Paris to see Matisse paintings. I couldn't find many, except for late work: paper cut-outs.  At the Hermitage Museum in Russia, I found a large room dedicated to Matisse's finest paintings. Why is he not in France but in other countries?

Ai: Fruits Drawing

I make my own preserves.  My favorites are drawn above: Quince & Chokecherry. This assignment was tough but I learned a lot about gradient mesh.  I used these texture effects: sponge, rough pastel and smudge stick.

Ai: Landscape

I used a ripple texture for the water and the bubble wrap effect for the mountains. I applied symbols for the sandy ground, the cloud and the rocks.  The white wave was drown with a calligraphy brush.
